The cable car will take you from the CBD to the top of the Botanic Gardens. It feels like a cross between a bus and a train. The ride is short and on a nice sunny day the view from the top is wonderful. The inside of the cable car is small so on a busy day it's crammed, but the up side is that the trip is short.

You do pay to go on the cable car. It's not too bad being $4 one-way, but when I went it was a free day. It costs more than a bus (one section on the bus is $2 and is quite a long distance), but it is unique and it's fun to try different things. In the two 100 meter long tunnels passengers are surrounded by LED lights that flash on and off that lighting designer Angus Muir uses to create stunning patterns.

If fIashing lights bother you, this may be a problem. I was fine going up, but on the return journey after walking around the gardens, I was hot and tired and the lights irritated me.
